1.7Summarising for change

Overview

A summary is a condensed version of a discussion in which you pull together key ideas and emotions, and put them into broad statements. Summaries are useful when you want to check your understanding or where you've got to.

Being able to summarise with an emphasis on particular points of the conversation to enable a learner to move forward is a useful skill. We call this 'summarising for change'. It is a way of focusing the learner's attention on what you believe will support change.

In this module we look at the key features of summarising.
