1.8Eliciting change talk


We don't tend to make changes just because someone advises us to. Motivation to change comes from within ourselves, when we're ready.

Similarly, your learners will be more convinced if they voice their own arguments in favour of change – we call this 'change talk'. Eliciting change talk is the central focus of motivational dialogue.

In this module, we look at how you can trigger your learners' own motivation by drawing out change talk.
