About these resources

Learners giving a presentation.

"Teaching and learning is now more learner centred, more engaging and motivating for both learners and teachers. For Myrrh Education this has meant that retention rates have increased by approximately 40 per cent in the last 18 months." Debbie Horsfall, Principal, Myrrh Education and Training Ltd.

The new teaching and learning resources for Society, health and development (SHD) offer a rich mix of creative, practical ideas and activities to help you create learning experiences so that:

  • your learners develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours that lead to success in their field
  • you can construct dynamic action plans for your own professional development.

The resources have been created with teachers and, crucially, with their learners, working collaboratively in national trials and pilots. They identified new ways of planning and managing learning, taking account of learners' experiences, interests and the wide range of environments in which learning can take place. Learners were encouraged to 'take the driving seat', to think about how they learn most effectively and to take more control of their learning plans. A wide range of employers in the SHD sectors have also been involved in the development of the resources to ensure that they foster the skills and attitudes people need to succeed in employment.
